What is Visia™ Digital Complexion Analysis System?

VISIA™ is an advanced technology system that integrates facial photography and imaging with skin condition analysis and mapping. It is a scientific and objective method to provide quantitative values for skin conditions. The six skin conditions that Visia digitally analyzes includes spots, pores, wrinkles, texture, porphyrins, and uv spots. These are defined as follows:

Spots

Spots are typically brown or read skin lesions including freckles, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation and vascular lesions. Spots are distinguishable by their distinct color and contrast from the background skin tone. Spots vary in size and generally have a circular shape.

Pores

Pores are the circular surface openings of sweat gland ducts. Due to shadowing, pores appear darker than the surrounding skin tone and are identified by their darker color and circular shape. The Visia system distinguishes pores from spots based on size the area of a pore is much smaller than a spot.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are furrows, folds or creases in the skin which increase in occurrence as a result of sun exposure. Wrinkles are associated with decreasing skin elasticity and are identified by their characteristic long, narrow shape. Winkles have variability depending on facial expression.

Texture

Texture is primarily an analysis of skin smoothness. Texture measures smoothness by identifying gradations in color from the surrounding skin tone, and well as peaks (shown in yellow) and valleys (shown in blue) on the skin surface that indicate variation in the surface texture.

Porphyrins

Porphyrins are bacterial excretions that can become lodged in pores and lead to acne. Porphyrins fluoresce in UV light and exhibit circular white spot characteristics.

UV Spots

UV spots occur when melanin coagulates below the skin surface as a result of sun damage. UV spots are generally invisible under normal lighting conditions. The selective absorption of the UV light by the epidermal melanin enhances its display and detection by Visia.

What is the science behind Visia™?

Visia™ is based on years of scientific research and analysis. Originally developed as a research tool for skin care, Visia combines software from Procter & Gamble and Facial Imaging from Canfield Imaging Systems. The scientific model and associated database at the heart of Visia is based on images and skin analysis from over 3500 women in eight different countries from around the globe. The statistical model provides a way to quantitatively evaluate and compare women’s skin in expected ranges for wrinkles pores, evenness and spots based on a given age and skin type.

How does Visia™ skin analysis work?

Using multi-spectral digital imaging and mapping techniques, Visia photos and analyzes different areas that affect skin health and appearance. Visia’s standard and UV photos measure six areas including the following: wrinkles, spots (skin pigmentation), pores, evenness (color variation in skin tone), UV spots (characteristic of sun damage) and porphyrins (evidence of bacteria lodged in pores which may lead to acne).

What will a Visia™ complexion analysis tell me?

Using a quantitative measurement you receive a skin feature score in each of these six areas listed above. This compares yours skin condition to other individuals of the same age, sex, and skin type. Since this assessment provides a specific reference point in both time and skin condition, it is very effective for visually tracking your treatment progress and outcomes.

How long does a Visia™ skin analysis take?

The Visia imaging session only takes about twenty minutes. These photos help explain and visually communicate your skin condition and serve as a measuring point for improvements. Once this is complete, the analysis and review consultation can take twenty to thirty minutes depending on conditions identified and treatment recommendations.

Does the procedure hurt? Are there other considerations?

No, the Visia analysis is a pain free process. You can not be wearing make-up when Visia imaging is being done.
