Dr. Coundouriotis uses IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to treat the following problems:
Sunspots or Age Spots occur in response to sun-induced skin injury and appear as dark brown circles, known as Solar Lentigines. There can also be diffuse browning of the skin, known as Actinic Bronzing.
Superficial blue, red, or purple veins under the skin’s surface. Some common types include Rosacea (facial redness and inflammation) and Spider Veins (tiny vessels that appear near the surface of the face). IPL works in any area, except directly around the eyes. The face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, etc. can all be treated quickly and safely.
How is IPL performed?
After your initial preparation, a cool gel will be applied to your skin; Then Dr. Coundouriotis will move the hand piece over your skin. The hand piece emits a light that breaks up the pigment in the lesions. Most people perceive the light as a “snapping” sensation, which causes little discomfort.
What should I expect during recovery?
Pigmented lesions will darken slightly after treatment, and then fade away after about 10-14 days. Vascular Lesions generally undergo immediate graying or blanching and the surrounding area may redden. The vessels then fade after about 10-14 days. Most people experience some mild temporary redness and swelling, similar to sunburn, in the treated area shortly after treatment. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. In some cases, the redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary. Dr. Coundouriotis will explain other, less likely side effects to you.
What should I do after IPL?
After your Intense Pulsed Light treatment, the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Dr. Coundouriotis may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regime especially formulated for your skin type after treatments. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
