The Genius procedure is a High Intensity Focused RF (radiofrequency) treatment delivering controlled, precise thermal energy deep into the dermis. The RF thermal energy is delivered via insulated needles through multiple passes and at varying depths in the dermis. This process creates a thermal injury in the skin which stimulates collagen development. The epidermis and surrounding tissue are protected and undamaged. The Genius procedure stimulates your body to rebuild collagen and elastin which are the hallmarks of youthful skin, and the loss of these is a primary cause of wrinkles and aging skin.
Does the procedure hurt and is it painful?
The level of pain or discomfort varies from patient to patient because each person has different tolerances. With this said, we’ve found that most patients tolerate the procedure well. Since needles are inserted into the skin, there is some degree of pain, but the areas to be treated is numbed prior to treatment. We use a topical numbing prior to treatment, to help ensure patient comfort. Additionally and depending on the area to be treated, Dr.Coundouriotis may also administer numbing injections. There is usually more sensitivity when the area treated is over bone, such as jawline or forehead. Most patients report that immediately post treatment, the area feel warm but there is no discomfort or pain.
How long is the downtime and what is recovery process?
After the procedure, the treated area will feel warm and look red, almost as if it were sunburned. There may be mild swelling in the treated area. This initial redness and warm sensation subsides quickly, usually within the first hour.
It can take up to 36 hours for the residual redness and swelling to dissipate. Rarely, does redness persist beyond a few days. Most patients resume normal activities within 24 to 36 hours.
How many treatments will I need?
This is a variable depending on area treated, starting point, and desired result. Typically and for maximum benefits, most patients require three treatments. These are done 4 to 6 weeks apart.
How long does the treatment take?
With an experienced provider such as Dr. Coundouriotis, a face treatment can take about 1 hour. Prior to the actual treatment, however, topical numbing in applied to the area to be treated. This process takes an hour and fifteen minutes.
When will I see results?
Your body will continue to rebuild collagen for several months after each treatment. It may take up to 6 months after the last treatment to see final results.
Can Infini be used on other parts of the body in addition to the face?
Yes, we routinely treat the neck and chest. Other areas which can also be treated include arm laxity, the knee area, and scars from abdominal surgery.
Why is GENIUS safe for darker skin patients?
The GENIUS is protective of the epidermis where the pigment cells are. The GENIUS needles are insulated and the depth can be adjusted so the heat from the RF stays in the dermis, below the most superficial layer. GENIUS is not trying to push heat through the skin.
How long will the results last?
This will be different for each patient depending on many variables including age, skin condition, overall health, smoking habits, lifestyle and the starting point.
