What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a procedure directed at restoring a natural shape to the ears. Choosing a plastic surgeon for your Otoplasty is a big decision and shouldn't be taken lightly. As with any procedure that involves the neck and face, only a Board Certified, Facial Plastic surgeon, should perform an Otoplasty.

Dr. “C” performs Otoplasty to correct ear deformities through and incision behind the ear. The cartilage of the ear is folded and the ear is brought closer to the head. The typical patient is a young child or teenager. However, adults who have never had a procedure to correct the problem are also good candidates.

What should I expect during and after Otoplasty?

Anesthesia is typically general and incisions are made behind the ear. Accurate measurments are required to ensure that the ear is set away from the head at a natural distance. Sutures are used to restore the appropriate folds to the contour of the ear. At the end of the procedure, a supportive dressing is is applied over both ears.

The dressing is removed and the ears inspected on the first day after surgery. Then, the elastic supportive dressing is restored to keep the ears close to the head. You'll keep this on 24 hours a day for the first week, and then you'll use it only at night while you are sleeping. Once healed, the results of an otoplasty should be life-long.
